The Etymology of ‘Puraedog’
‘‘Puraedog’’ is a combination of the word ‘pure’, which originates from the Korean word ‘Pureuseureumhada’ meaning ‘bluish’, and ‘dog’ which means a jar with a protruding belly.
What is ‘‘Pure ware’’?
‘Pure ware’ is the product name by Hanmi-yo Bae-si Toga. It is a combined word of ‘purae’ meaning ‘bluish’, and ‘dogi’, which means pottery made of pure red clay. It is fired at a high temperature without glaze or lye coating.
The research on the material and firing skills of ‘Puraedog’ has been carried out since early 1980s by Bae Yeonsik, the 6th generation of the Bae family, resulting in today’s ‘Pure ware’, developed from the original ‘Puraedog’ in terms of material and firing technique, and fired at 1300℃
